Medical Assistants perform a dual role for the health care organizations in which they are employed. Doctors, nurses and patients all depend upon the professionals in Medical Assisting jobs to accurately complete their responsibilities. Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly. They should not be confused with physician assistants, who examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the direct supervision of a physician.
Clinical duties vary according to State law and include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination.
As a medical assistant, you will perform duties including clinical and administrative tasks that help medical offices run smoothly:
Prepare exam rooms for patients.
Prepare patients for treatment.
Measure and record vital signs.
Assist physicians with minor procedures.
Collect patient specimens for testing.
Chart patient medical histories.
