Phlebotomy technicians, or simply phlebotomists, are professionals who draw blood from patients. They take these blood samples to pass to laboratory. A Phlebotomist serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving specimens; preparing specimens for laboratory testing; performing screening procedures. A Phlebotomist facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory.

Phlebotomy is more than just taking blood. Phlebotomy courses, in addition to teaching collection techniques, prepare you for emergencies and help you understand proper laboratory procedures in order to avoid contamination or infection of yourself and others.

Course structure and modules

This certificate course is intended to provide the understanding of basic principles of blood drawing. Student will practice drawing blood on an artificial arm.

Course includes:

Identification of color tubes.

Common sites of venipuncture and skin puncture.

Universal precut (precaution) and isolation techniques.

Handling of the specimens for accurate results.

The demand for well-trained and certified professional phlebotomists is expected to stay strong for the foreseeable future. Demand for the specialized technical skills of phlebotomists is also projected to increase as time goes by laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform bloodwork.
